Drive-by posting...

To indicate I'm not dead yet.

Work is insane, but when is it not? Yesterday was not just end of the month, but end of the fiscal year. My office has the contract to oversee the certification of adult behavioral health workers and I'm basically a one-person email/call center. In addition, I review all travel expense reports for my portion of the uni (roughly 200 or so people) to ensure compliance with the uni's travel regulations. About noon yesterday, my email "exploded" as everyone and their first through third cousins realized it was end of month/end of fiscal year. I put in an extra hour just to catch-up on things that absolutely needed to get done yesterday. There were still 30 unopened emails in my inbox and who knows how many phone messages as I started ignoring the phone at 4pm to concentrate on what needed to get done yesterday.

Not looking forward to today, 'cause you can bet some of those individuals in the unopened emails I couldn't get to will send follow-up panic emails and make phone calls. Sorry, not sorry, your procrastination-caused emergency is NOT my emergency/problem. I'll get to 'em as I can.

In non-work, I'm not believing the current forecast for this weekend. If it proves true it'll be the first sunny with no precipitation in sight weekend since early March.

Vacation the week of July 13th can't come quick enough.

There is an American holiday on Friday. considering the current nature of our politics, I'm not feeling very patriotic about said holiday.

Rebuilding journal search again

We're having to rebuild the search server again (previously, previously). It will take a few days to reindex all the content.

Meanwhile search services should be running, but probably returning no results or incomplete results for most queries.

More catching up

I had my annual Wednesday. Blood tests were mostly acceptable, with the usual exceptions: high PSA and Lyme. I’ll see my urologist at the end of July, sooner if the numbers cause him concern; I will definitely go for a biopsy this year, regardless. I started on the doxycycline today, for the Lyme, and I got my knees X-ray’d for arthritis; my NP read the report and believes, as did I, that my knee issues are from a past Lyme infection. An Orthopedic visit will be mid-July.

I love this Richard Scarry pic!

Our heat wave ended! Temps have gone from 97°F down to 75°F during the day. It’s currently a lovely 64°F outside :o) Fireflies had been extremely active in the higher temps, but there are still plenty out this evening.

IMG_0637.jpeg
This looked cute :o) The only AC we have is in our vehicles.

The truck has been running okay with that stored gasoline I put in. Today, during errands, I topped off the tank with seven gallons of fresh fuel, just to even it out.

Lastly, I’ve been watching some of those click-bait YouTube videos about old songs and artists. “Forgotten songs from 1971” “Worst bands of the 60’s” “Top songs from 1969” and the like. Some of these videos are pretty good, but most are too subjective and filled with nonsensical ‘insights’ by the posting person. *sigh* The good videos take me back, remembering the lovely music and what was happening at the time it was popular.

The Ritual

I did my gasoline swap today, emptying about ten gallons of the old (September 2023) into the truck to free up containers for new (two five gallon and one two and a half). I use the Stabil Storage additive to prolong the quality of the fuel so I have it on hand for emergencies (generator) as well as running yard machines. Twelve and a half gallons @$2.98 per gallon today; last August when I did this gasoline was $3.16: I still have about eight gallons of that, and may swap it out in the Fall.

Also today I watered more of our various plants, and decided to give the garden another drink as temps may hit around 100° Tuesday. Seventy gallons via soaker hose to the veggies this evening so it can penetrate before things heat up. We may get rain Thursday, and temps are due to drop thirty degrees; I’d hate to farm for a living!

Fortunately the well and pumping components have been behaving. I thought last year that the check valve(s) in the line were shot and I wouldn’t have the luxury of this additional water system, but so far they hold enough to allow my two hours of use without the pump running continuously. The tank even held pressure last week for a couple of days!

Catch up

The Huntress (2.0) found another nest of small cottontail kits in her backyard. Two survived her foray, and, after securing and watching the form and not seeing mom return for a couple of days, these were taken to the Wildlife Clinic of Rhode Island for proper care and treatment. I called the clinic two days after dropping the bunnies off and was told they responded well and had been given over to a local rehabilitator along with other orphans that had been brought in that day.

Speaking of the pup, tomorrow she turns 4!

Other than that, things here have been quiet. The garden is coming along, and I gave it a good weeding Friday. I also applied a fungicide as this is when the plants, particularly the cucurbits, become infected with wilts, blights, rusts, and so on. Saturday I watered the plants.

Today temps were in the nineties, and I watered shrubs and the lilies.

I did some computer stuff, like using the pc to backup and update my iPad. I also installed one of my three Norton subscriptions on the iPad as well. I had gotten a phone message, part of two step verification, asking if I was signing in to one of my services when indeed I was not, and I figured I should get everything as secure as I could. I figured that someone may have been trying to log in by saying they lost the password, but who knows? All my passwords are different, unlike back in the nineties when I just kept using the same one for everything! Ah, the innocence now lost…

That’s enough. Some Imgur to share!

I did not know this, either!

This never gets old!

In all fairness, I should mention that the man who was JarJar considered suicide because of how he was received by Star Wars fans. But, he got through it, and the jokes they just keep coming.
